Travel headphones live in bags
QuietComfort headphones are bought to be worn on aeroplanes and trains, which means they spend their lives being packed, unpacked and crushed under something heavier in an overhead locker. Hinges and headbands take the strain, and a broken hinge is not a repair Bose treats as a warranty matter.
Earbuds go missing
The Ultra Open and QuietComfort earbuds are small enough to lose in the way all earbuds get lost, out of a pocket or off a seat, and a single replacement bud from the manufacturer costs a serious fraction of the pair.
