The mount fails more often than the camera
A GoPro is genuinely tough, and most of the ones that never come home were not broken but lost, because an adhesive mount let go on a helmet, a bike frame or a surfboard. The camera survived the impact perfectly well and is now at the bottom of something.
Rated to depth, not to everything
Every HERO carries a depth rating, and every rating assumes intact seals, closed doors and fresh water. Salt, sand and a door that was not quite shut are all outside it, and none of it is a warranty matter.
