What our e-reader insurance covers
- Cracked e-ink screens, which have no practical repair
- Water damage beyond the rating
- Accidental damage including being sat on
- Theft, replaced with the same model
- Cover on holiday, where most damage happens
There is no screen repair for e-ink
Phone and tablet screens are replaced routinely, and e-ink panels are not, because the display is effectively the whole device. A crack means a replacement, and manufacturers treat accidental damage as outside the warranty in every case.
They go where books are awkward
The whole reason to own one is to take it to a beach, a bath or a flight, which are three places books do badly and e-readers get damaged.
Why Dynamo
Cover that works the way you do
Cracked screens
An e-ink panel cannot be economically repaired, so a crack means the device is replaced rather than fixed, and no warranty covers dropping it.
Water damage
Several models carry a water rating and none of them is intended for sea water, sand or a long soak.
Damage away from home
Most e-reader claims happen on holiday, which is exactly where a home contents policy usually stops applying.
Theft
E-readers are left behind on aircraft and in hotel rooms, and a stolen one is replaced with the same model.
Kindle and Kobo
Both ranges are covered, including the larger writing tablets which cost several times what a basic reader does.
Add it to a policy
An e-reader rarely warrants cover on its own, so it goes on a policy alongside your other devices.

Not economically, because the e-ink panel is effectively the device, which is why a claim almost always results in a replacement rather than a repair.
Yes, cover applies worldwide, and that is where most e-readers come to grief.
Yes, beyond whatever rating your model carries, and no rating covers sand or salt water.
Yes, and older readers are worth covering because they tend to be the ones taken travelling once a newer one arrives.
