What Is Breakdown Cover & Why Take Out A Policy With Dynamo?
Breakdown cover is an insurance product that provides you with complete peace of mind in case your car or van breaks down. It’s often referred to as breakdown and recovery and it can cover a lot more than just cars and vans. For example, at Dynamo, our breakdown cover will assist cars, vans, LGV’s, private hire, taxis, motorbikes and scooters as well as trailers and caravans. Types of car related issues that breakdown cover can be used for can include a punctured tyre, flat battery and many other more severe faults. However, if your car can’t be repaired on the roadside, breakdown cover will tow you to your home or a garage where your vehicle can be repaired.

If you've broken down, you'll want assistance as soon as possible. Therefore, at Dynamo, our breakdown cover utilises our network of recovery agents to provide a target time of 40 minutes.

You will be liable for the full cost of private recovery. Depending on the distance and the time of the incident this could cost over £300! This is why you should get breakdown cover before an incident occurs!
If your car is already broken, you will not be able to buy insurance. If you buy breakdown insurance when your car is already broken down and try to claim, you will break the law and could end up with a criminal record and up to 6 months in prison (No-really! it’s very serious!)
If your policy includes ‘Home Assistance’ as a benefit, our Recovery Agent will attend your home address and attempt to fix your vehicle there, if this is not possible you may have the option to be taken to the nearest suitable garage.
You have the right to cancel this policy within 14 days of the date you purchased the policy or when you received the policy documents if this is later. This is known as your cooling off period. You do not need to provide a reason for cancellation, and we will provide a full refund of any premium paid less a £7.50 cancellation fee unless you have made a claim or there has been an incident likely to result in a claim. If you wish to cancel the policy after 14 days from the original date you first purchased the policy, we will provide a refund, less a proportionate charge for any cover already provided, unless a claim has been made or there has been an incident likely to result in a claim. This will be based on the number of months remaining until the expiry date, less a £7.50 cancellation fee. Where a claim has occurred or there has been an incident likely to result in a claim no refund of premium will be provided. This applies to new users only, and not renewal users.
You can transfer your Breakdown policy to another vehicle once the mid-term adjustment (MTA) fee of £7.50 has been paid and providing the new vehicle is the same age or younger than the existing one.
Please be aware that many of our policies automatically renew each year. This means that unless you opt-out, your policy will renew on the renewal date (12 months from when you purchased the policy). If you do not want your policy to automatically renew, you can opt-out at any time. Simply log into your account and amend your renewal preferences. Alternatively, you can call us on 0300 22 32 897. We cannot accept opt-outs via email so make sure to change this online or contact us via the chat bot or call us on the number provided.
